Types of z/OS downloads available
You can find the following types of z/OS
downloads on this page:
As-is z/OS downloads
- These z/OS downloads are offered as-is:
BatchPipes
- SMF analysis tool
- Use the SMF analysis tool to determine whether
BatchPipes is right for you. Run this tool on your system's SMF data to
produce a report of the estimated time savings you can achieve with
BatchPipes. The tool reads SMF record types 14, 15 and 30 (subtypes 1,4
and 5) from your SMF data.
FLASHDA
- Use the FLASHDA SAS®-based tool to manage your
transition to Solid State Drives (SSD); the tool provides DASD and data
set usage reports using SAS code to analyze SMF 42 subtype 6 and SMF 74
subtype 5 records to help you identify volumes and datasets that are
good candidates to reside on SSD.
Be
sure to read the FLASHDA
tool description (PDF - 1.68MB).

IBM Configuration Assistant for z/OS
Communications Server
- IBM Configuration Assistant for z/OS
Communications Server provides centralized configuration of AT-TLS, IP
Security, NSS, PBR, QoS, and IDS policies.
-
IBM Encryption Facility for z/OS Client
V1.2
- The IBM Encryption Facility for z/OS Client
V1.2 is composed of two parts:
- The IBM Java Client
enables you to control encryption and decryption of data on platforms
other than z/OS or on z/OS systems that do not use the Encryption
Services Feature of the IBM Encryption Facility for z/OS V1.1 product.
In that way, you can exchange encrypted data between z/OS and non-z/OS
platforms when the encrypted data is created through the Encryption
Services Feature.
- The IBM Decryption Client
for z/OS allows you to decrypt data that has been
created through the Encryption Services Feature. The Decryption Client
is installed on z/OS platforms.
Additional information:
Publications are available on the Encryption
Facility for z/OS V1.2 bookshelf.
Sample JCL is available to assist you with the following scenarios:
- Using the Encryption Services feature of
the IBM Encryption Facility for z/OS product to encrypt an MVS dataset
and store it in a tape data set.
- Using IEBGENER and the IBM Encryption
Facility for z/OS Client - Java Client to decrypt the data and store it
in an MVS dataset. A sample Unix System Services script used by this
sample job is also provided. Both samples reflect the use of passwords.
Just read
and accept the terms and conditions before you download
the samples.
IBM Health Checker for z/OS and Sysplex
V3.01 (October 2003)
- This download is no longer available.
IBM Migration Checker for z/OS
- This tool is still available but no updates are
planned for z/OS V1.10. Beginning with z/OS V1.10, new migration checks
use the IBM Health Checker for z/OS (which is an integral part of the
z/OS product). More migration checks are planned over time.
The new migration checks can assist with planning before migrating to
z/OS V1.10 or after migrating to z/OS V1.10, to verify that the
migration actions were successfully performed. As with any IBM Health
Checker for z/OS check, no updates are made to the system. For more
information, see Using
IBM Health Checker for z/OS for migration checking in the z/OS
V1R10 Migration manual.
Though the IBM Migration Checker for z/OS tool is planned to be
withdrawn at some point, you can still use this tool in addition to the
new migration checks. If you use the tool, read the installation
documentation for the tool and use it with the z/OS V1R10 Migration
manual. You can run the tool as often as you like: on your current z/OS
system, after installing z/OS V1.10, and after deploying each z/OS
V1.10 image into your enterprise. The tool checks the level of the
system on which it is running but does not make any changes to the
system. The tool can:
- Alert you to migration actions that you
should plan for in the future
- Detect some migration actions that you can
do now to ease your migration to z/OS V1.10 (or to z/OS V1.8 or z/OS
V1.9)
- Verify that you've done some migration
actions correctly when you're running z/OS V1.10 (or to z/OS V1.8 or
z/OS V1.9)

-
ICTX Java API Javadoc
- The ICTX Java API is the primary interface for
working with the z/OS Identity Cache. The z/OS Identity Cache can be
used by applications to communicate user authentication information
across security domain boundaries. An application running on a z/OS or
non-z/OS system can use the ICTX Java API to store identity context
information in the Identity Cache on the local, or on a remote, z/OS
system. The ICTX Java API provides two logical sets of services - one
for specifying and parsing authentication information, and one for
storing that information in, and retrieving it from, the z/OS Identity
Cache. These two logical sets of services are provided in three
packages which are documented in the ICTX Java API Javadoc.

SMP/E installable z/OS Web deliverables
- The following z/OS downloads are considered Web
deliverables and are SMP/E-installable.
Why are there z/OS Web deliverables? Stated simply, because we want you
to be able to select new non-priced functions for your z/OS or OS/390
releases (releases for which Web deliverables are offered may or may
not be currently orderable). Since we can't offer new features to
products that aren't currently marketed, we're using the Internet to
provide you with these functions (More).
- RSM Enablement Offering for z/OS R13
- The RSM Enablement Offering web deliverable is designed to help
improve system availability and responsiveness by using Flash Express
across transitional workload events such as market openings and
diagnostic data collection.
With RSM Enablement Offering and Flash Express, z/OS is also
designed to help improve processor performance by supporting middleware
such as IMS™, with its exploitation of pageable large (1 MB) pages.
With additional planned PTFs, this function is also designed to help
improve processor performance by enabling middleware to use 2 GB pages.
Along with that support, z/OS will be designed to make the pageable
link pack area (PLPA) and common page data sets optional, used only for
quick and warm start IPLs.
Exploitation of pageable 1 MB pages is planned for:
- z/OS V1.13 Language Environment® when used with a run-time option.
- Java, with the IBM 31-bit SDK for z/OS , Java technology
Edition, V7.0.0 (5655-W43) and SDK7 IBM 64-bit SDK for z/OS, Java
Technology Edition, V7.0.0 (5655-W44).
- The IMS Common Queue Server, which is designed to use
pageable large pages for selected buffers when running IMS 12
(5635-A03) on an IBM zEnterprise EC12 server (zEC12) with the PTF for
APAR PM66866.
Exploitation of 2 GB pages is planned for:
- IBM 31-bit SDK for z/OS, Java technology Edition, V7.0.0 (5655-W43)
and SDK7 IBM 64-bit SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition, V7.0.0
(5655-W44).
