Welcome to the Community Development System for Linux (the 'Service'), a Service provided by IBM. The Service provides you with access to a Linux on System z environment for the purpose of providing the Open Source community with a platform to develop, port and/or test drive your products or applications on this platform. We anticipate the majority of users to include entrepreneur developers/vendors that otherwise might not have the opportunity to test/port their code to the System z platform. However, we invite all interested parties that meet the established terms and conditions to register and experience "Linux on System z".

Network
The network configuration is a direct Internet connection with open access to the Linux guest machines from the WWW.
The CDSL mainframe is supported by an IBM Virtual Machine, established to support a large number of guest systems. With registration approval, you are given access to a guest system to accommodate your Linux project.
Guests will have access to the following:
- Applications installed with distributors default package selection.
Once a user is registered and approved to access a CDSL system, a user is required to have direct Internet connection, via a Telnet and SSH client. If you do not have a SSH client, you may obtain a free Win32 platform copy from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/. We have found that an SSH1 RSA key is implemented with minimum efforts.
Technical support for configuring, testing, and porting is the users responsibility. Backup and recovery of your data is also the users responsibility.
These Linux on System z hints and tips have been assembled by an IBM technical team responsible for porting applications to Linux on System z.
To register for the CDSL, you must read and agree to the terms and conditions, and then fill out a registration form.
If you have already registered for the Community Development System for Linux, but have not received a response from us, it is possible that your e-mail address was invalid. Please check the Lost and Found list to see if your name is there. If you have not heard back from us and your e-mail address does not appear on the Lost and Found List, please do not send us additional correspondence.
If you identify your e-mail address on the Lost and Found List please do the following:
Send an e-mail to LinuxATS@us.ibm.com, be sure to include:
- the e-mail address from the Lost and Found List
- the corrected e-mail address or new e-mail address
- the name and address used on your CDSL registration form
