The zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX) is the infrastructure for extending System z governance and management capabilities across a set of integrated, fit-for-purpose POWER7 and IBM System x® compute elements in the zEnterprise System.
The new zBX Model 003 is configured to attach to the new zEnterprise BC (zBC12) or the zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12). The zBX Model 002 is configured with either the zEnterprise 196 (z196) or zEnterprise 114 (z114). Attachment to the zEnterprise is via a secure high-performance private network. The zBX can house the IBM WebSphere DataPower Integration Appliance XI50 for zEnterprise (DataPower XI50z), and select IBM BladeCenter PS701 Express blades or IBM BladeCenter HX5 (7873) blades.
The DataPower XI50z is a multifunctional appliance. It can be implemented to provide XML and non-XML message hardware acceleration. It is able to streamline and secure valuable service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications. Or, it can be configured to provide drop-in integration for heterogeneous environments by enabling core Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) functionality including routing, bridging, transformation and event handling.
1On November 1, 2011, IBM Smart Analytics Optimizer was withdrawn from marketing for new build and MES zBX. It has been replaced with IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS (IDAA), a new workload optimized, appliance add-on that attaches to the zEnterprise System.
