The IBM z BladeCenter Extension (zBX) is the infrastructure for extending z Systems governance and management capabilities across a set of integrated, fit-for-purpose POWER7® and IBM System x compute elements in the z Systems.
With the new zBX Model 004 the direct management connection with a z Systems server has been eliminated. There are two 1u Support Elements installed in the zBX that will connect to the ensemble Hardware Management Console (HMC). There will not be a INMN (inter-node management network) connection required. The zBX will still access data via the IEDN (inter-ensemble data network) and the IEDN can only be attached to one server. The zBX can house the IBM WebSphere DataPower Integration Appliance XI50 for zEnterprise (DataPower XI50z), and select IBM BladeCenter PS701 Express blades or IBM BladeCenter HX5 (7873) blades.
The DataPower XI50z is a multifunctional appliance. It can be implemented to provide XML and non-XML message hardware acceleration. It is able to streamline and secure valuable service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications. Or, it can be configured to provide drop-in integration for heterogeneous environments by enabling core Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) functionality including routing, bridging, transformation and event handling.
