For the IBM eServer zSeries 990:
- Using the 1 to 1 ratio for planning zAAP on machine - one CP must be installed with or prior to any zAAPs being installed. That means the total number of zAAPs installed may not exceed the total number of CPs plus unassigned CPs installed on the z990.
For the IBM eServer zSeries 890:
- One zAAP may be purchased for one-way z890 capacity settings (110 to 170).
- Two zAAPs may be purchased for two-way z890 capacity settings (210 to 270).
- One zAAP may be purchased for three-way z890 capacity settings.

Capacity on Demand
When your business needs short term additional capacity System z Capacity On Demand settings can deliver it. You may need the flexibility to rapidly increase or decrease your computing capability as requirements change. This may mean a permanent capacity increase for planned growth or a temporary capacity increase for seasonal or unpredictable peak periods. IBM provides the capability to quickly and nondisruptively activate "extra" processor capacity that is built directly into System z9 and System z products, IBM Capacity Upgrade on Demand (CUoD) for a permanent increase of processing capability, and IBM On/Off Capacity on Demand1 (On/Off CoD) for a temporary capacity increase that lets you revert to your previous processing level whenever you wish.
System z Capacity on Demand is for not only general purpose processors, but zIIPs and zAAPs as well. See your IBM representative to see if one of these capacity on demand features is right for you.
