Solaris 10 operating system
Solaris 10 running on System x and BladeCenter servers delivers the performance, reliability and security needed for your most demanding technical compute applications with a simple, safe and robust infrastructure — all with worldwide enterprise support from IBM and Sun®.
- Single-server consolidation - Take full advantage of Solaris's virtualization capability to allow you to re-host a range of workloads from underperforming servers and move them to a single IBM System x server.
- Unix server re-hosting - One benefit of the Solaris operating system is its ability to run on both Sun SPARC and x86 based processors. This helps allow customers to easily re-host applications to an IBM System x server certified for Solaris and thus help realize the benefits of lower TCO (compared to older UNIX servers) and a high level of availability and flexibility.
- Server consolidation - The certification of Solaris on various IBM BladeCenter blade servers allows you to consolidate a number of Solaris, Linux®, Windows®, and even AIX® based applications onto a single IBM BladeCenter H or IBM BladeCenter HT chassis.

Notes:
IBM Blades based upon Intel and AMD processors are not certified with the Bladecenter S chassis. Customers are advised to choose the BladeCenter E chassis unless 10GbE performance is required then the BladeCenter H should be considered. Telco customers should consider the BladeCenter T or BladeCenter HT chassis.
