VMware ESXi 3.5
VMware ESXi 3.5 (formerly known as VMware ESX Server 3i)is an operating system-independent, thin hypervisor that partitions physical servers into multiple virtual machines. Its 32 MB footprint is designed for rock-solid reliability, simplified management and enhanced security. VMware ESXi 3.5 is available integrated on select IBM System x and BladeCenter servers and included in VMware infrastructure 3 software editions as a standalone hard drive install.
VMware Infrastructure 3
VMware infrastructure software can virtualize servers, storage and networking, allowing multiple operating systems and their applications to run independently in virtual machines while sharing physical resources. VMware Infrastructure software packages can be selected from IBM or your IBM Business Partner when purchasing System x or BladeCenter systems. When purchasing VMware Infrastructure, customers are required to order both the license to the software and the subscription for the software. 1
- VMware Infrastructure Enterprise edition - Enterprise Edition contains the entire array of virtual infrastructure capabilities for resource management, workload mobility, and high availability. Includes VMware ESX 3.5, VMware ESXi 3.5, VMware Consolidated Backup, VMware Update Manager VMware VMotion, VMware Storage VMotion, VMware DRS with Distributed Power Management (DPM) and VMware HA.
- VMware Infrastructure Standard edition - Standard Edition is designed to bring higher levels of resiliency to IT environments at greater value. Includes VMware HA, VMware ESX 3.5, VMware ESXi 3.5, VMware Consolidated Backup and VMware Update Manager.
- VMware Infrastructure Foundation edition - Unlike the previous VMware Infrastructure 3 Starter Edition, VMware Infrastructure Foundation has no restrictions on shared storage connectivity, memory utilization or number of CPUs of the physical server. Includes VMware ESX 3.5, VMware ESXi 3.5, VMware Consolidated Backup and VMware Update Manager.
VMware VirtualCenter
VirtualCenter intelligently optimizes resources for all applications in virtual machines and makes your IT environment more responsive with virtualization-based distributed services such as VMware DRS, VMware High Availability (HA) and VMware VMotion. Integrating VirtualCenter with IBM Systems Director Virtualization Manager, an optional extension for IBM Director allows you to manage physical and virtual systems from a single console. IBM Systems Director Virtualization Manager also integrates with and complements VMware VMotion to automatically move a workload to a secondary server when a potential error condition or resource threshold is detected - helping minimize downtime.
