Clusters create the concept of highly available resources. In the event of a failure, resources on other nodes can run the workloads from the failed node, thus minimizing downtime. Clustering IBM System x™ and BladeCenter® servers can help simplify IT management and reduce costs by increasing availability, optimizing performance, and enabling remote maintenance with an intelligent system design that includes multiple layers of redundancy combined with advanced availability tools. Whether you are a small business or a large enterprise, IBM System x, BladeCenter and IBM System Storage™ combined with IBM and IBM Business Partner offerings can help provide a resilient IT infrastructure, ensuring that your valuable data and applications are continuously available.

Ferdinand Gross meets just-in-time demands with high-availability solution from IBM — Working with messpo GmbH, an IBM Business Partner, Ferdinand Gross implemented four Intel®–based IBM System x servers–a combination of two– and four–socket machines–running database and application servers and a domain controller under SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. The System x machines are clustered using LifeKeeper Cluster for Linux,
third-party software product from SteelEye, that aims to provide continuous availability of applications by maintaining system uptime. The company also implemented a second data center to improve its disaster recovery capabilities.
