Highlights
Provide highly secure access to remote desktops from virtually any client device at any time.
Simplify systems management and application deployment.
Help lower costs and maintenance associated with traditional desktop computing.
Enable a highly available and reliable infrastructure for desktop users.
The virtual client solution from IBM is a desktop virtualization solution that can help simplify desktop functions such as systems management and application deployment for administrators while enhancing system security and availability for desktop PC users. PC users are able to enjoy the benefits and personal control of a stand-alone desktop – functionality including print capabilities, USB drive support, and audio – while reducing many of the management challenges related to current stand–alone desktop environments. These include limiting susceptibility to theft and viruses, ease of deployment of new users, extended downtime during a hard drive failure, or having to rebuild their preferences and settings after each client "refresh".

Solution summary

The Virtual client solutions from IBM runs desktop functions on a BladeCenter® or System x™ server in a data center-providing users with remote access to their desktop PC's. While the end user benefits from retaining control over their desktop environment, IT managers benefit from the cost and systems management advantages of a centralized computing environment.

IBM System x and BladeCenter servers built around the IBM X-Architecture® design philosophy offer enterprise servers, blade servers and modular servers. These servers include proactive tools to help you manage complexity and become more energy efficient so you can go green and start saving.
IBM Virtualization Manager, an extension of IBM Director allows you to visualize and navigate virtual to physical resources and relationships.
VMware® software carves the physical server into multiple virtual servers with specific compute, memory, and I/O resources that can be dynamically reallocated based on application and user requirements. Each virtual server can be assigned to a user, or multiple users can share a virtual server depending upon the application and usage requirements.
Leostream Virtual Desktop Connection Broker is the software that joins the appropriate target virtual machine with the necessary OS image and software application on the server. Industry standard Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) provides the presentation software to display the application on the thin client device.
Thin clients allows end–users to run their Windows and Linux desktops and Windows, UNIX, Linux and mainframe applications directly from data center servers.
IBM end user services, helps you provide anytime, anywhere access to applications, information and resources.
