The IBM Half High LTO Gen 3 SAS Tape Drive is the entry point into IBM’s Linear Tape-Open (LTO) tape technology family and can be the answer to growing storage requirements and shrinking backup windows. By leveraging advanced LTO technology and a slender half-height form factor, this enterprise drive is suited for handling the backup, save and restore and archival data storage needs of a wide range of System x and BladeCenter environments.

The IBM Half High LTO Gen 3 SAS Tape Drive is an excellent tape storage solution for businesses requiring backup or low-cost, real-time archiving of their data within a small window of time. This 3rd-generation LTO-3 drive provides up to twice the storage capacity, up to 800 GB (with 2:1 compression), and up to three times the performance, up to 160 Mbps (with 2:1 compression), of the preceding LTO-2 half-high technology.

Advanced features

The IBM Half High LTO Gen 3 SAS Tape Drive includes enterprise-class features including a 6 Gbps Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interface, 256 MB Buffer, 16-channel head, Digital Speed Matching (DSM) and Adaptive Data Compression technology, to optimize performance.

This drive is also the first LTO generation to introduce WORM (write once, read many) support. WORM capable cartridges give you the option of storing vital data in a nonerasable, nonrewritable format, to help ensure compliancy with data security, information disclosure and privacy regulations for data at rest.

Investment protection

Two generation-backward media compatibility provides investment protection and enables an easy migration or upgrade path for legacy LTO users. In addition to reading and writing to LTO Ultrium™ 3 tape cartridges, the IBM LTO-3 half-high drive can read and write to LTO Ultrium 2 cartridges and read LTO Ultrium 1 cartridges. The cartridges are also forward read/write-compatible with LTO-4 tape drives and read-compatible with LTO-5 tape drives, for further investment protection.
