Deduplication for System Z - Protect more. Store less
The IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z combines a virtual tape library solution, inline data deduplication powered by IBM’s unique and patented HyperFactor technology and disk-based storage options to provide users an optimal disk-based target for Systems z applications that traditionally use tape.
Designed to simplify tape processing operations and improve tape application performance while reducing infrastructure costs, the TS7680 offers high-performance inline data deduplication, highly available two node clustering and up to 1 PetaByte (PB) of physical storage capacity per system.
The IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z features:
- High performance inline deduplication
- Scalability up to 1 PB of useable capacity per system
- 256 virtual tape drives per two node cluster
- Up to one million logical volumes per system
- Native replication of deduplicated data to remote site for enhanced DR
- Multiple disk configuration options
- Simplified deployment.
The IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z is an enterprise-class, data protection platform designed to quickly and safely protect business information while reducing the amount of space required for storage.
Deploying the IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z solution can help more efficiently protect corporate data on disk-based storage while helping you manage the exponential growth of new data through reduction or elimination of duplicate data.
Benefits of IBM Virtual Tape with Deduplication
The combination of virtual tape and data deduplication can help reduce complexity, improve efficiency and reduce the costs of tape processing operations. A significant advantage of virtual tape is that it eliminates tape mounting time. This allows your applications that utilise tape to complete much faster. It can also reduce central processing unit (CPU) wait time, freeing up processing power for other applications. In addition, virtual tape also speeds up restores.
And since virtual tape systems are seen by the mainframe as a standard tape library, existing processes and procedures need not be changed to accommodate the new technology and little or no operating system modification is required.
Data deduplication, can significantly extend storage capacity. This means that up to 25 TeraByte (TB) of tape application data can be stored in 1 TB of disk cache after deduplication. This extraordinary efficiency can reduce capital expenditure and help you reduce power, cooling and floor space demands in your data centre.
In addition, the IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z now provides automated, policy-driven Internet Protocol (IP)-based replication, which automates and simplifies DR planning and processes. By sending only changed/deduplicated data to the remote site, network bandwidth requirements are significant reduced, freeing up valuable network resources for other key business processes.
