Organisations that are looking to automatically move their workload from local infrastructure out to the cloud can add capacity on demand with Platform Symphony and Platform LSF clusters provisioned on the SoftLayer cloud and connected to an on-premises cluster. For companies experiencing new or emerging resource demands, a stand-alone cluster running on the SoftLayer cloud provides compute and storage resources as needed, accessible on a temporary basis with drastically reduced wait times.

For clients looking to add storage capacity or who require more performance and scalability than NFS can provide, Elastic Storage, based on IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS™) technology, is now available as a service on the SoftLayer cloud as part of the IBM Platform Computing Cloud Service. Optimised for technical computing and analytics workloads, Elastic Storage on Cloud enables seamless transfer of files between local and cloud-based resources.

With the addition of Elastic Storage on Cloud, Platform Computing Cloud Service enables speedy deployment of fully supported, ready-to-run technical computing or analytics environment the cloud. Organisations using the service can easily meet additional resource demands without the cost of purchasing or managing in-house infrastructure, minimising their administrative burden and quickly addressing evolving business needs.

Two solution models are available: a hybrid cluster (cloud bursting) and a stand-alone cluster in the SoftLayer cloud (public cloud). In addition to offering fully integrated workload management spanning on-premises and on-cloud resources, the solution provides a security-rich cloud environment that offers high-performance infrastructure for demanding technical computing and analytics applications. The SoftLayer platform includes dedicated physical machines, InfiniBand interconnect and the latest processor technology to ensure optimal application performance.
