IBM RackSwitch G8124E

Highlights

The IBM® RackSwitch G8124E is a 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch specifically designed for the data centre (DC), providing a virtualised, cooler and easier network solution. The G8124E offers twenty-four 10 GbE ports in a high-density, 1U footprint. Designed with top performance in mind, the RackSwitch G8124E provides line-rate, high-bandwidth switching, filtering and traffic queuing without delaying data and large DC grade buffers to keep traffic moving.

The G8124E is virtualised–providing rack-level virtualisation of networking interfaces. VMready software enables movement of virtual machines (VMs) – providing matching movement of virtual local area network (vLAN) assignments, access control lists (ACLs) and other networking and security settings. VMready works with all leading VM providers, such as VMware, KVM, Citrix, Xen, IBM PowerVM and Microsoft® Hyper-V. The G8124E also supports Virtual Fabric, which allows for the carving up of a physical NIC into 2 - 8 virtual NICs (vNICs) and creates a virtual pipe between the adapter and the switch (using the IBM Networking OS) for improved performance, availability and security, while reducing cost and complexity.

The G8124E is cooler–implementing server-like directional cooling to maximise DC layout and provisioning. Its superb airflow design complements the hot-aisle and cold-aisle DC cooling model. G8124E models come in either rear-to-front or front-to-rear airflow models, allowing customers to design their DC based on their hot- and cold-aisle implementation.

The G8124E is easier–with server-oriented provisioning via point-and-click management interfaces. Its industry standard command line interface (CLI), along with seamless interoperability, simplifies configuration for those familiar with Cisco environments.

Systems

IBM offers a broad systems and storage portfolio combined with decades of experience solving real business problems. With x86, POWER and mainframe systems, disk, tape and network storage systems, IBM can offer the right combination of systems to meet the challenges of your business.

Storage

Storage efficiency is more vital than ever. Your disk utilisation rate may be as low as 20% — while the amount of data you are required to store is exploding. IBM Storage can help.

Networking

The smarter data centre with improved economics of IT can be achieved by connecting servers and storage with a high-speed and intelligent network fabric that is smarter, faster, greener, open and easy to manage. IBM takes an open, standards-based approach to implement the latest advances in today's flat, converged data centre network designs.

Software

IBM's comprehensive Systems Software solutions help to centralise, streamline and automate your physical and virtual infrastructure, allowing you to optimise workloads and increase your ability to deliver IT services that align with business goals. Let us show you how IBM Systems Software helps you realise the value of IBM smarter computing, by allowing a more effective use of the advanced features in IBM hardware and operating systems.

Integrated solutions

The reality is that you need an IT infrastructure designed for data, tuned to the task and managed in the cloud. If your IT staff spends all of their time managing IT, they won't be working with you to drive innovation. You need your infrastructure to help you in the marketplace, to help you innovate, to help you be more competitive, to help you succeed.
