The IBM i operating system has flexible licensing options to meet your specific business needs.
Small and Mid-Sized Systems
For the IBM Power 520, BladeCenter JS12, BladeCenter JS22 and the System i 515 and 525 servers, the i operating system has processor and user entitlements. A processor entitlement is needed for each processor running the i operating system. A user entitlement is needed for each concurrent user that is authenticating with the i operating system. A base number of user entitlements are included with the express offerings and additional users entitlements can be per purchased in blocks of 5 or 10 users depending on the server model. In addition, Unlimited Users, External Access and Unlimited Collaboration Users options are available.
A new tool is available to be downloaded to your server to estimate the number of i operating system user entitlements required. The documentation and save file, contained in a zipped file, can be downloaded and installed on your system.
Download the tool (US) (ZIP, 260KB)
Large Systems
For Power 550, Power 570, Power 595 andthe System i 550, 570, and 595 servers, the i operating system has processor entitlements. A processor entitlement is needed for each processor running the i operating system. In addition, for these models, customers have the option to purchase i operating system Application Server entitlements. The Application Server entitlement provides an entitlement for the i operating system without a entitlement for DB2. Customers who wish to deploy applications which do not require DB2 will find the i operating system Application Server license to be a more affordable option for deploying these applications.
