Join us at SC12 in Salt Lake City

SC12, the International Conference for High Performance Computing (HPC), Networking, Storage and Analysis, is taking place at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, November 10  - 16, 2012.

The IBM Technical Computing team will be there to showcase IBM HPC Solutions, including the enhanced IBM Platform Computing portfolio.  Examples include HPC Cloud, Platform HPC management of the new Intel® Xeon Phi™ Coprocessor, and the latest IBM Systems for HPC, including the IBM Blue Gene/Q, the system that was #1 on the Top500 list in June.

IBM receives four awards from HPCWire

HPC wire. Editors' Choice Awards 2012
  • Editor's Choice - Top supercomputing achievement (in collaboration with LLNL for IBM Blue Gene/Q Sequoia)
    • Editor's Choice - Best use of HPC in life sciences (IBM Watson for WellPoint)
    • Editor's Choice - Best application of "green computing" in HPC

HPC wire. Readers' Choice Awards 2012
  • Reader's Choice - RCA Top 5 vendors to watch (#4)

SC12 Technical Program

Supercomputing is critically important across all industries.  IBM and Platform Computing developer and researchers lead workshops during the SC12 Technical Program in such diverse areas as real-time modeling of the human heart; seismic imaging; scaling weather; a hybrid approach to Exascale operating system; and HPC Cloud and Big Data Analytics.

Another industry example, The Fifth Workshop on HPC in Finance, sponsored  IBM, Thomson Reuters, Fountainhead and Intel Corporation, brings together practitioners, researchers, vendors, and scholars to learn about recent advances in the application of high performance computing to computational finance.

Thinking about Cloud and Analytics? Think IBM Platform Computing

Scott Campbell and Chris Porter, both from IBM Platform Computing, will explore how Cloud and Workload Management solutions provide a mechanism to transform isolated technical computing resources into a shared resource pool for both compute- and data-intensive applications. Join us for their seminar “HPC Cloud and Big Data Analytics - Transforming High Performance Technical Computing”   and learn how IBM Platform Computing Symphony solutions provide the on-demand access to research while reducing  management.

Stop at IBM and Platform Computing Booth 1018

Both IBM Platform Computing and IBM Technical Computing solutions will be showcased at Booth #1018. You can see IBM Blue Gene®/Q—the system that was number one on the Top500 list as of June, 2012—as well as other IBM POWER7® technology. The IBM x86 portfolio will be on display including the new IBM PureFlex™ technology, IBM iDataPlex® warm-water cooling technology, processors with the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor and the System x3750 X5 server running with ScaleMP for large memory processing. IBM tape and storage solutions, along with the IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS™) and high-performance storage systems (HPSS), will be highlighted, as well as the IBM Parallel Environment Developer Edition 1.2, including the open-source Eclipse Parallel Tool Platform.

For Platform Computing, you can see a demo that shows Platform HPC integration with vSMP Foundation, which provides the ability to dynamically aggregate physical compute nodes into one large SMP node based on workload requirements. Another live demo will showcase the value of the integration between System x, Platform HPC, Intel Xeon Phi and Intel Cluster Ready by launching the same workload on a Xeon processor and the Phi coprocessor using the Platform HPC interface.   Two additional demos, the IBM Platform Dynamic Cluster add-on for IBM Platform LSF® for dynamic, shared-cloud infrastructure and the demonstration of Platform Computing big data solution for Apache Hadoop MapReduce implementations using the new IBM Platform Symphony GUI, round out the Platform Computing demonstrations.

Beyond RAID

IBM adds big data friendly, affordable servers to line up. IBM is offering new storage servers that combines RAID data security and speed with a new take on file systems and architecture to deliver even faster and more reliable data performance.

SC12 Briefing Topics

We have scheduled a number of special briefings at SC12 on key topics important to the HPC Community. Please contact Alena Callimanis, with the topics you would like to join.
