Highlights

Protect More. Store Less®

The IBM System Storage® TS7680 ProtecTIER® Deduplication Gateway for System z® combines a virtual tape library solution, with IBM’s unique and patented HyperFactor® deduplication technology and integrated native replication technology to provide users an optimal disk-based target for Systems z applications that traditionally use tape.

Designed to simplify and improve the performance and reliability of tape processing operations while reducing infrastructure costs, the TS7680 offers high-performance inline deduplication, highly available two node clustering and scalability to store up to 25 petabytes (PB) of tape data on high-speed disk capacity per system.

The IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z features:

The IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z is an enterprise-class, data protection platform designed to quickly and safely protect business information while reducing the amount of space required for storage.

Deploying the TS7680 solution helps protect data traditionally stored on tape with high-speed disk and leverages deduplication technology to help manage the exponential growth of new data through the elimination of duplicate data. And since virtual tape systems are seen by the mainframe as a standard tape library, existing processes and procedures need not be changed. The combination of virtual tape and deduplication can help reduce complexity, improve efficiency and reduce the costs of tape processing operations. For example, a significant advantage of virtual tape is that it eliminates tape mounting time. This allows your applications that utilize tape to complete much faster, reducing CPU wait time and freeing up processing power for other applications.

The power of combining deduplication with replication

ProtecTIER’s native replication technology enables virtual tape cartridges to be replicated to a remote location for enhanced disaster recovery and business continuity. By eliminating the need to physically transport tape cartridges, data can be recovered faster and more reliably enabling systems to get back online quicker in the event of a disaster. It also lowers the TCO of backup and recovery by eliminating the costs associated with moving and storing physical tape.
