The TS7650G Gateway was designed to improve backup and recovery operations by enabling more backup data to be stored on high speed disk for longer periods of time at a greatly reduced cost by leveraging data deduplication technology. The TS7650G Gateway combines a virtual tape library interface with IBM’s revolutionary and patented HyperFactor® deduplication technology. This technology enables significant savings in disk requirements and costs while delivering the power and reliability of disk-based backups.
ProtecTIER® provides industry leading inline deduplication performance at over 500MB/sec per server or 1000MB/sec with a dual node cluster. Most other deduplication vendors struggle to provide 150MB/sec per server sustained performance. To make up for their performance shortcomings, those vendors must propose multiple servers or propose a risky two phase approach called “Post Processing” to reach the same performance or capacity provided by a single ProtecTIER system. This eliminates a cost saving opportunity of reducing the amount of disk required to store backup data and raises the total cost of ownership of their solutions in terms acquisition costs and ongoing maintenance and support costs.
