IBM TS3310 Tape Library

For businesses challenged with rapidly growing data backup and long-term data retention needs and limited physical space for a tape library, the IBM TS3310 offers simple, rapid expansion as processing needs grow. This tape library allows you to start small, with only a single 5U high library. Over time, as your need for capacity expands, you can add additional 9U expansion modules, each of which contains space for additional cartridges, tape drives and a redundant power supply. The entire system grows vertically. Currently, available configurations include the 5U base library module and a 5U base, with up to four 9U expansion modules.

No. of drives:

Up to 18 Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium tape drives (maximum two drives for the base model L5B library).

Max. number of cartridges:

Base model L5B: 35 storage and six I/O. Expansion module, model E9U: 92 storage or 80 storage and 12 I/O.

Max. system capacity (2.5:1 Compression):

6.13 PB in a 41U configuration or 615 TB in model L5B base library.

IBM TS3500 Tape Library

The IBM TS3500 Tape Library combines IBM automation and drive technology to provide a highly scalable, automated tape library for IBM z Systems™ and open systems backup and archive that can scale from midrange to enterprise environments.

No. of drives:

12 per frame (192 per library, 2700 per complex).

Max No. of Virtual Cartridges:

>20,000 LTO per library, 300000 per complex, >15,000 3592 per library, 225000 per complex.

Max. system capacity (2.5:1 Compression):

4.5 EB LTO at 2.5:1 compression.

Max. system capacity (3:1 Compression):

6.75 EB 3592 at 3:1 compression.

Supported platforms:

Can attach to IBM Power Systems and non-IBM servers and workstations (Attachment to z Systems can be made via TS7700).

IBM TS4500 Tape Library

The IBM TS4500 Tape Library is a next-generation storage solution designed to help midsized and large enterprises respond to storage challenges. It can store up to 5.5 petabytes (PBs) of data in a single 10 square foot library, and provides advanced capabilities for integrated tape drive and media management, delivered within a single-pane-of-glass management console.

No. of drives:

Up to 16 per frame (up to 12 in frame 1).
Up to 128 per library string.

Max. number of cartridges:

LTO supported per library: up to 17,550.
3592 supported per library: up to 23,170.

Max. system capacity (2.5:1 Compression):

LTO: 347.5 PB with 2.5:1 compression.

Max. system capacity (3:1 Compression):
