Hardware requirements:
The following are the recommended levels of processor and disk storage hardware for IBM TotalStorage; Expert V2R1.
Processor
MINIMUM:
A desktop PC, sharing IBM TotalStorage Expert with user applications. Expect slow response times for user applications when running both applications and Expert simultaneously.
BETTER:
A multiprocessor server that can run IBM TotalStorage Expert and other applications simultaneously.
BEST:
A dedicated machine that runs IBM TotalStorage Expert and supporting software exclusively.
Disk storage:
MINIMUM:
A shared disk partition between Expert DB2® database and other application data.
BETTER:
A separate disk partition for Expert DB2 database.
BEST:
A dedicated disk for Expert DB2 database.
The specific minimum environment for AIX
RS/6000® processor.
At least 768MB of RAM.
At least 758MB of disk space for IBM TotalStorage Expert and included prerequisites.
Additional disk space for Expert database (amount depends on number of nodes managed and customer-defined data retention policy). A minimum of 260MB is recommended and could result in a space requirement in excess of one gigabyte.
CD-ROM drive (for installation).
Ethernet or Token-Ring card.
Video graphics adapter (VGA) display, or better (for installation only)
Network connectivity to the Internet.
The specific minimum environment for Windows 2000 Server
500MHz or better processor.
At least 512MB RAM.
At least 571MB of disk space for IBM TotalStorage Expert and included prerequisites. (Total space available on the hard drives may need to be somewhat more if Expert and the prerequisites are split among more than one logical drive.)
Up to 25MB of disk space on the system drive (usually C:), for new and updated drivers, dlls, and so on. This number depends on products already installed and the latest level of service pack applied to Windows® 2000 Server.
Supplemental information
Additional disk space for IBM TotalStorage ESS Expert history data (depends on number of nodes managed and customer-defined data retention policy). A minimum of 260MB is recommended and could result in a space requirement in excess of one gigabyte.
Up to 50MB of temporary disk space on the system drive at installation time for use by the setup utility.
CD-ROM drive (for installation).
VGA display or better.
Ethernet or Token-Ring card.
Network connectivity to the Internet.
The IBM TotalStorage Expert ESS feature uses the IBM TotalStorage ESS Specialist. The IBM TotalStorage Expert ETL feature uses the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Library Specialist when supporting the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Automated Tape Library, and the IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server. The IBM TotalStorage ETL Expert feature uses the IBM TotalStorage Peer-to-Peer VTS Specialist when supporting the IBM TotalStorage Peer-to-Peer Virtual Tape Server.
The ETL feature's use of either of the IBM TotalStorage tape specialists requires that the tape libraries have the following:
Feature 5045 or equivalent (for example, 7588 PC with Warp 4 and 64
1MB RAM)
Feature 5219 or 5220 (a Token-Ring or Ethernet LAN card)
A connection to the customer LAN for feature 5219/5220
A remote PC with Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1 or Netscape® Communicator 4.73 with Java™ and Javascript enabled
Library Management code at level 524.07 or higher
In addition, the VTS or Peer-to-Peer VTS must be at code level 2.21.12.0 or later in order to access the "real-time statistics" including throttling information and the Health Monitoring function
Software requirements
IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1 works with AIX® or Windows 2000. Both AIX and Windows 2000 require TCP/IP. AIX requires either:
AIX 4.3.3 4330-07 Maintenance Level + APAR IY19277 OR
AIX 4.3.3 4330-08 Maintenance Level + APAR IY19277
