  • IBM's Premier enterprise disk storage system DS8000, adds Thin Provisioning in version R4.3. Thin Provisioning helps clients curtail capital expenditures by increasing existing disk capacity utilization. Clients can add capacity when they actually need it, rather than dedicating vast amounts of spare capacity unnecessarily. Higher capacity utilization can also lower operating costs associated with energy use and data center floorspace. Other enhancements include multitrack support for High Performance FICON for System z and quicker LUN initialization.

IBM’s next generation open systems storage system, XIV, adds availability, security, and dual processors, delivering improved price and performance for more demanding client workloads. XIV enables clients to reduce capital expenses for storage without lowering service level expectations.
