The IBM System Storage EXP420 Storage Expansion Unit (18128VH) is a Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) disk-only storage expansion unit for use with the DS4200 Express Model 7V. It is designed to provide:
- Compact, 3U rack-mount disk expansion enclosure that accommodates 16 DS4200 SATA Enhanced Value Disk Drive Modules (EV-DDMs), offering up to 8 TB of physical capacity per expansion unit
- Proven DS4000 reliability and scalability -- utilizes internal switching technology to attach each individual disk drive module
- Redundant, hot-swappable power supply and cooling components
IBM expands its DS4000 series midrange disk storage offerings of high- performance, high availability, business-critical storage solutions with the IBM System Storage DS4000 EXP420 Storage Expansion Unit, expressly designed for attachment to the DS4200 Express Model 7V. The EXP420 Storage Expansion Unit (18128VH), is a 16-bay SATA disk-only enclosure that accommodates the DS4200 500 GB SATA EV-DDM and provides up to 8 TB physical capacity per expansion unit. The DS4200 is a SATA disk-only system that is well suited for applications requiring large amounts of storage, such as data archiving, reference data, and fixed-content applications, that do not demand the performance and access intensity typically addressed with Fibre Channel disk drives.
