Click the tabs below and discover how IBM System Storage™ and TotalStorage® products help you meet business demands and protect your investments in tehnology.
The marketplace is changing, with open, pervasive technologies as a driving force. In the new marketplace, connectedness is everywhere. Open standards, virtualization and Service-Oriented Architecture are useful to enable you to manage your systems more efficiently. And IBM innovation with technology advancements can help you protect your investments in existing technology while ensuring the system performance to meet your business demands.
Here are a few of the technology advancements from IBM System Storage to help you realize innovation.
Disk
IBM System Storage Disk systems provide virtualized, resilient, high-performance storage for mission critical workloads. The DS6800 is designed to deliver enterprise-class storage functionality for distributed and mainframe servers in a modular, space-saving, power-efficient, scalable package. The DS8000 helps you manage the total cost of ownership with Enterprise Choice warranties of 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-years on hardware and advanced functions
Tape
The IBM System Storage TS2230 Tape Drive Express Model has a storage capacity of up to 800 GB (with 2:1 compression) in conjunction with the IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 400 GB data cartridge, which is double the capacity of the Ultrium 2™ technology. Along with its higher capacity, the performance of the TS2230 Tape Drive has more than doubled over the previous generation of half-high LTO drives in the market for a native data transfer rate of up to 60 MBps. The TS2230 Tape Drive provides an excellent alternative to slower and smaller capacity ¼-inch, 4 mm and 8 mm DLT/SDLT tape drives.
Storage Area Network (SAN)
The introduction of large capacity, high-availability storage systems offers new opportunities for cost reduction through storage consolidation and infrastructure and management simplification. Fibre Channel SANs were developed to provide efficient, high-performance access to many storage devices from many servers. The Cisco MDS 9124 Express for IBM System Storage is designed to serve as a foundation for infrastructure simplification.
Data Encryption
Increasing attention is being paid to the need to protect company data against theft or accidental loss, particularly data that contain personal or sensitive information of a company’s customers. The TS1120 now includes data encryption capabilities within the drive itself, helping to avoid the need for host-based encryption of data—and the concurrent drain on host performance—or the use of specialized encryption appliances. This capability is intended to provide customers with greater ability to protect information if tape cartridges are lost or stolen by supporting the storage of the data in an encrypted form.
