Virtualization
The IBM Virtualization Engine™ TS7700 can help reduce costs such as power, maintenance, operations and support staff. Through the implementation of a fully integrated tiered storage hierarchy of disk and tape, the benefits of both technologies can be leveraged to help enhance performance and provide the capacity needed for today’s tape processing requirements. Deploying this innovative subsystem may help reduce batch processing time, total cost of ownership and management overhead.
Storage Area Network (SAN)
The IBM System Storage SAN32B-3 SAN fabric switch requires up to 20 percent less power than the SAN32B-2 (its predecessor), thus reducing cooling requirements. This reduction in power and cooling enables integration of power supplies and cooling fans into a single unit.
A thirty-two port Cisco MDS 9134 switch offers up to 25 percent reduction in power and cooling per port compared to a twenty-four port Cisco MDS 9124 switch. For non-oversubscribed configurations, a sixty-four port MDS 9134 switch fabric offers more than a 50 percent reduction in power and cooling per port compared to a twenty-eight port Cisco MDS 9216A (sixteen switch ports plus an optional twelve port line card).
Hard Disk Drives
IBM System x 15K hard disk drives (HDDs) have three field-proven generations of reliability, decrease RAID rebuild times, and have similar or lower power and cooling requirements, acoustics, and rotational vibration compared to 10K rpm HDDs.
