The operating system agents serve as the control point for accessing operating system and host information. These agents run on operating system-based and hardware-based systems that can be discovered and managed by IBM® Systems Director. The level of system management depends on the agent that is installed on the system: Common Agent or Platform Agent.

Common Agent provides a rich set of security and deployment function, including discovering systems, monitoring health, managing alerts, managing power, and others. Learn more.

Platform Agent provides a subset of the function provided by Common Agent and is well suited to environments that require a smaller footprint without sacrificing manageability. Learn more.

IBM Systems Director Common or Platform Agents

There are two methods for installing IBM Systems Director agents onto managed systems. The preferred method of installing agents is to import them into IBM Systems Director Server and use the Agent Installation wizard to install them. You can also install them manually directly on the managed server. The type of installation package you download depends on which type of installation you plan to do.

NOTE: For some of the agent releases, you can use IBM Systems Director update manager to update to the latest release. If no Internet connection is available from your IBM Systems Director Server, you can manually download supported updates from the IBM Fix Central website and then import them into update manager.

The downloads for the IBM Systems Director 6.1.x products across all platforms will be removed from this site soon after September 30, 2013.
