The rapidly-accepted XIV Storage System series has thousands of installations worldwide, including in financial services, healthcare, energy, education, and manufacturing. IBM XIV integrates easily with virtualization, email, database, analytics, data protection, and other solutions from Microsoft, IBM, SAP, Oracle, SAS, VMware, Symantec and other leading providers. With its massively parallel grid architecture, XIV is recognized as an ideal platform for cloud computing and virtualized environments.
The XIV Gen3 model offers 3 TB drives, providing up to 243 TB of usable capacity per rack—bringing excellent price-performance value to a single floor tile. SSD caching (available as an option) adds up to 6 TB of management-free caching power to the whole array, providing up to three times the performance for active application workloads*—without the need for setup, administration, or migration policies.
Unleashing the Power of the Architecture: XIV Gen3 design gives applications a tremendous performance boost over previous models and provides the high reliability that businesses require in today's demanding environment:
- Up to four times the throughput, cutting time and boosting performance for business intelligence, archiving, and other extremely demanding applications
- Up to three times speedier response time, enabling faster transaction processing and greater scalability with OLTP, databases, and email applications
- Gives additional boost of up to three times with IBM XIV SSD Caching (optional), accelerating access to access to data from all applications with zero management, at a fraction of typical SSD storage costs*
- Power to serve more applications from a single system, utilizing InfiniBand intermodule connect, large cache, fast disk controllers, high processing power, and abundant FC and iSCSI connectivity
- Robust disk rebuild mechanism uses all system disks, completing a 3 TB drive rebuild in approximately 50 minutes with minimal impact on system service
- Simple remote mirroring supported between XIV Gen3 and the XIV Storage System, offering flexibility for meeting data protection goals
