The Design Center experience
Our services follow a sequence based on years of successful IT enablement experience.

Process

Requesting a Design Center engagement
You can contact your IBM representative to request a nomination from the Design Center closest to you: Poughkeepsie, NY, U.S. , Montpellier, France or Makuhari, Japan. (If you do not know your IBM representative, contact us to request information.) After reviewing the nomination information provided by the IBM representative, the Design Center will decide either to accept the nomination or redirect the request to another team better suited to handle the client's requirements and expectations.

Requirements gathering
A requirements gathering session (RGS), which generally consumes one and one-half days, is usually held at your location. An IBM team, typically three members of the Design Center, gathers and reviews your information during the first day. The next day the team presents their understanding of the information gathered, for accuracy and completeness. Then the IBM team discusses the next steps with you.

Design workshop
Following the RGS, the design workshop takes place at the Design Center and generally lasts three to five days. Your requirements are reaffirmed, potential technologies and solution alternatives are reviewed, and a high-level solution proposal is created. This phase, concludes with a discussion of next steps. We recommend that you prepare a presentation (with our help) for your executive sponsor. This helps ensure an understanding of the solution by all parties.

Proof of concept and skills transfer
In this phase the proof-of-concept phase can follow the design workshop if it is mutually beneficial. You commit resources to work at the Design Center (typically from two to eight weeks, depending on the solution). In this phase, we determine the functionality of the design that was developed at the Design Workshop. You do most of the hands-on work; consultation and skills transfer are provided by the Design Center team.

On demand infrastructure deployment
We work with you and the account teams to help ensure a smooth transition from Design Center engagement to on demand infrastructure deployment. You use the experience gained at the Design Center to move forward into implementation. During the wrap-up, IBM works with you for references or testimonials.
