PM for Power Systems

How do I stop collection and transmission of PM for Power Systems performance data to IBM?

Depending on your operating system and transmission method, please refer to the following section for instructions on how to stop collection and transmission of PM for Power Systems performance data to IBM. You must do these steps on each of your server/partitions.

Stop collection and transmission on IBM i (V6R1 or higher)

Do the following steps:

• Telnet to each server/partition
• From Command Entry, type ‘cfgpmagt’ and press ENTER
• Press ENTER on ‘PM Agent Signoff Approval’ page
• Enter option ‘0 = do not send performance data’ for ‘Select connectivity option for sending performance data to IBM’
• Enter option ‘0 = No’ for ‘Receive performance data’
• Press ENTER twice to return to the Command Entry
• From Command Entry, type ‘go pm400’ or ‘go pmagt’ and press ENTER
• Select option ‘2. Work with Automatically Scheduled Jobs’
• Enter option ‘2 - Change’ before each Scheduled Job that is listed (Q1PTEST, Q1PPMCHK, Q1PPMSUB, Q1PDR, Q1PPG)
• On the ‘Change Automatically Scheduled Jobs’ screen, change ‘Status’ to ‘I=Inactive’ and press ENTER
• Press F12 to return to the Command Entry

Stop collection and transmission on IBM i (V5R4)

Do the following steps:

• Telnet to each server/partition
• From Command Entry, type ‘cfgpm400’ and press ENTER
• Press ENTER on ‘PM eServer iSeries Signoff Approval’ page
• Enter option ‘*NO’ for ‘Send performance data to IBM’
• Enter option ‘*NO’ for ‘Receive performance data’
• Press ENTER twice to return to the Command Entry
• From Command Entry, type ‘go pm400’ and press ENTER
• Select option ‘2. Work with Automatically Scheduled Jobs’
• Enter option ‘2 - Change’ before each Scheduled Job that is listed (Q1PTEST, Q1PPMSUB, Q1PPMCHK, Q1PDR, Q1PCM2, Q1PCM1, Q1PMONTH, Q1PPG)
• On the ‘Change Automatically Scheduled Jobs’ screen, change ‘Status’ to ‘I=Inactive’ and press ENTER
• Press F12 to return to the Command Entry

Stop collection on AIX V7.1 TL 00, V6.1 TL 3 and V5.3 TL 9 and higher releases

Do the following steps:

• Telnet to each server/partition
• Login as root
• At # prompt, type 'smit topas' and press ENTER
• Select ‘List active Recordings’ and confirm there is a local binary persistent recording running
• Press ESC+3 to go back to main 'Topas' menu
• Select ‘Stop Recording’
• Select ‘Stop Persistent Recording’
• Select ‘Stop Persistent local Binary Recording’
• Change ‘PM Service’ to ‘Disabled’ and press ENTER
• Confirm message ‘Successfully disabled PM data transmission’

Stop collection on AIX (V6.1 TL2, AIX 5.3 TL8 and prior releases (pmaix.rte))

Do the following steps:

• Telnet to each server/partition
• Login as root
• At # prompt, type 'smit install' and press ENTER
• Select ‘Software Maintenance and Utilities’
• Select ‘Remove Installed Software’
• For ‘SOFTWARE Name’, enter ‘pmaix.rte’
• Change ‘PREVIEW only? (remove operation will NOT occur)’ to ‘no’
• Confirm ‘pmaix.rte’ event ‘DEINSTALL’ is ‘SUCCESS’

Stop Performance Data transmission from Hardware Management Console (HMC) on all AIX releases

To disable individual server/partition(s):

• Click the ‘Systems management’ link
• Click the ‘Servers’ link to display a list of Flexible Service Processors (FSP) for your HMC
• Click the on FSP to display the list of server/partitions controlled by the FSP
• Click on a server/partition and access ‘Partition Properties’ dialog
• Access the ‘Hardware’ tab and uncheck ‘Allow performance information collection’ under the ‘Processors’ tab

To disable for all the server/partition controlled by this HMC

• Click the ‘Service Management’ link and then click the ‘Transmit Service Information’ link
• Within the ‘Performance management transmission’ section, uncheck the ‘Schedule when to transmit the performance management information’

Note: By un-checking this option, all AIX server/partitions controlled by the HMC will stop sending performance data to IBM.
