Unprecedented growth in data—and the number of people demanding access to data—is placing significant strain on corporate data warehouse systems. As competition becomes more intense, the need to improve data access and accelerate business analysis becomes more acute. The computing resources required to support query-intensive analytics are very different than those put in place to manage transaction-oriented business operations.
At a time when increased competition calls for quick answers—with an accuracy that requires larger amounts of data—Business Intelligence (BI) systems are challenged by:
- More data. The amount of data that organizations must manage is growing rapidly, with IDC forecasting a CAGR of almost 60% through 2011.5 New regulations force companies to store more historical data and, more importantly, maintain online access to data for longer periods of time.
- More demand. Intelligence-driven decisions are becoming more prevalent, and decision support tools are becoming more broadly used. This results in more users asking for more reports and requiring better ad hoc query support.
- More complex queries. The natural outcome of more users, with a greater need-to-know and broader access to reporting tools is more sophisticated "what if" scenarios and more frequent reporting needs.
- Time pressures. Line-of-Business managers are putting increased pressures on IT to deliver solutions faster.
All of which can lead to over-burdened operational or data warehouse systems, resulting in slower performance and higher costs. Slow response times for processing the events and transactions that drive a business have a direct impact on revenues, productivity and customer satisfaction. Slow results for queries or reports are simply unacceptable.
The Sybase Analytic Solution is designed to enable rapid time-to-value, with a pre-configured and tuned system that includes all the hardware and software needed to be up and running in days, not weeks. The solution quickly alleviates the performance issues faced by today's stressed enterprise data warehouses. By offloading data needed for specialized Business Intelligence (BI) applications, your organization can find fast relief for addressing rapidly growing needs for reporting and the complex analytics that define competitive advantage.
The Sybase Analytic Solution is flexible, and affordable from proven technology leaders. The solution accelerates complex ad hoc queries and reporting by complementing EDWs with extreme analytics performance. IBM Power Systems servers offer a flexible, scalable and reliable platform for query-intensive workloads running AIX®—the industrial strength UNIX operating system from IBM. A complete solution ensures you are up and running quickly, including an analytics engine, extract, transform and load (ETL) capabilities, data modeling, BI tool, and a console to monitor and administer the solution.
