How do you perform a task?

After signing onto the console with your IBM i user profile name and password, expand the desired task category underneath IBM i Management, then click on a specific task. For example, to work with active jobs, expand the "Work Management" category, then click on the "Active Jobs" task. This displays the Active Jobs portlet in the work area.

Underneath each task category the key tasks are listed as navigation nodes. In this case, "Active Jobs" is one of the key tasks, so just click on the "Active Jobs" link to display the Active Jobs portlet. All tasks for that category can be accessed by expanding the "All Tasks" node. If a node has a + icon in front of it, you can either click on that node, or click on the + to display the children of that node. Example: Active Subsystems.

If you have a task, or specific function, that you use often, and want it to be added to the Favorites category, where you can access it in a single click, do the following:

Quick path

You can quickly locate the desired task by simply typing a task name, description, or CL command that relates to that task in the Search box that appears directly above the IBM i Management node in the navigation area.

Example: Type "create" ...

Continue typing if you don't see the task you are looking for ...

Clicking on the task in the search results area will take you directly to that task.

Where are the i5/OS tasks that used to be shown via the 2001 port?

Prior to i 6.1, the URL ...
... would display the i5/OS Tasks page. The web-based tasks that appeared on that page can now be accessed by clicking on the "IBM i Tasks Page" link that appears on the IBM Navigator for i Welcome Page.

HTTP Server needs to be running

The HTTP Server needs to be running in order for the IBM Navigator for i console to be available. Here is where the HTTP Server is shown in the System i Navigator application: If the HTTP Admin server has been stopped for some reason and needs to be restarted, make sure the following jobs appear for the QHTTPSVR subsystem BEFORE you try to use the console on that system:
