IBM Facsimile Support for i enables your users and your applications to send and receive faxes. Combined with native integrated modem hardware solutions, it provides a convenient, cost-efficient fax solution for your business. It provides users with direct fax capabilities, which help increase operational efficiency and productivity through rapid information dispersal. Cost savings may also be realized through reduced human intervention time, paper cost, telephone charges, postage charges and document delivery time. Also, there is an audit trail of both inbound and outbound activity to track the flow of your business data.

Facsimile Support provides the base product enablers to fax IBM i or PC output (such as text, images, or graphics) and to receive incoming faxes. Integration of the product with AnyMail Mail Server Framework allows users of various electronic mail services to exchange mail. The integration allows electronic mail to be sent to a fax machine as easily as it is sent to another computer.

Features

  • Growth and flexibility, as it is supported on the entire range of IBM i servers and can grow as your needs do
  • Fax profiles that allow customization according to users' requirements
  • Fax profiles, a fax phone book and fax distribution lists
  • DTMF routing
  • Direct Inward Dialing (D.I.D.) inbound routing on the Multi-Tech MT5634ZBA-DID Direct Inward Dial external modem.
  • Automatic routing and processing of inbound faxes based on Transmitting Subscriber Identifier (TSI) data
  • Detailed auditing of all outbound and inbound transactions
  • Automatic retry of failed faxes
  • Security for transmission of sensitive information
  • Capability to send faxes during off-shift hours when telephone rates are less expensive
  • Faxing of documents from PC applications

Facsimile Support provides a complete solution for integrating fax into your business solutions. For the user, functions can be accessed from a menu, directly from a command line, or through an application. Regardless of the way the user accesses the feature, the interface remains consistent. Application developers can easily enhance an application with fax by calling any of the functions provided.

IBM 5289/5290 Async EIA-323 adapter (CCIN 57D4) 115200(V.34) 2 ports
To order, contact Multi-Tech Systems (link resides outside of ibm.com).

Note: IBM Facsimile Support for IBM i V5R7 is supported using the feature 2893/2894 PCIe adapter or the 2-port 5289/5290/EN27/EN28/EN29 Async PCIe adapter. When using the 4-port 5277/5785 Async PCIe adapter PTF SI57656 for 5798-Fax V5R8 is needed. When using a 2-port Async adapter, the Multi-Tech Systems MultiModem ZBA V.92 Data/Fax World Modem (MT9234ZBA-IEC) has been tested and found to work using Multi-Tech 923ZBA firmware later than the 1.02j level.

Note With IBM i 7.2 or later, instead of a PCIe adapter providing an Async port, the WAN over LAN protocol can optionally be used to save PCIe slots. With approach, an OEM box with multiple Async ports is attached via an Ethernet connection to the Power System. Fax modems are then attached to these Async ports.

Note: IBM 2761/4761 is no longer supported for Fax on current OS releases; replacement is 2805/2806. (Last supported release was V5R2.)
