Service packs plans for IBM i Access for Windows

There are no further service packs scheduled for 6.1 IBM i Access for Windows after May 2011.

You should plan on upgrading your clients to 7.1 IBM i Access for Windows in order to receive service packs in the future

This statement only refers to IBM i Access for Windows and does not apply to IBM i 5.4 or 6.1 in general.

7.1 IBM i Access for Windows provides support to connect to machines with IBM i 5.4 and later releases.

Clients who want to remain at IBM i 5.4 and who have a software maintenance agreement can acquire the 7.1 version of IBM i Access for Windows by ordering 5722-SS1 refresh feature 6287. This feature delivers the PC installation software.

Clients who want to remain at IBM i 6.1 and who have a software maintenance agreement can acquire the 7.1 versions of IBM i Access for Windows by ordering 5761-SS1 refresh feature 6287, which also includes the 7.1 version of IBM i Access for Web. This feature delivers both the PC and server installation software. The Licensed Program for installation on the server for 7.1 IBM i Access for Windows is 5770-XE1 and for 7.1 IBM i Access for Web is 5770-XH2.

Starting in February 2011, for all software upgrade orders placed using the e-configurator, the default delivery for the order is Electronic Software Delivery (ESD). The ESD ordered software products are then available to download from the Entitled Software Support (ESS) website. If ESD is not desired, the e-configurator will allow the user to change the delivery type to physical media. Note that a physical media charge will be billed for clients choosing this media delivery type.
