Question: How many licenses will I need?

Answer: PowerHA for AIX is a server product that has one charge unit: Number of processors. The number of processors is the sum of the number of processors on which PowerHA will be installed or run.

The same rules apply to the Standard and Enterprise Editions.

Ordering and billing is per physical processor, regardless of processor sharing ("sub-cpu LPARs"). A processor shared among multiple partitions counts as one processor.

This program is eligible for sub-capacity pricing, usage, and billing.


Question: Can I add PowerHA licenses or processors for short-term use, or additional inexpensive idle backup processors and memory?

Answer: Yes! With the appropriate prerequisites in place you can add 450-processor-days of On/Off CoD whenever needed. See the On/Off CoD Announcement Letter 204-298 and 105-056


Question: Is there a Try and Buy option?

Answer: No. However, all IBM software offered under IPLA provides a 30-day money-back guarantee (on the first acquisition of the product).


Question: How much does it cost to upgrade to PowerHA from a prior release?

Answer: If you have the Software Maintenance Agreement 566x-HMP for PowerHA for AIX you can receive new releases of PowerHA for AIX for no additional charge.

Question: What services are available from IBM Systems Lab Services?

Answer: IBM Systems Lab Services (LS) mission is to drive client acceptance of STG products through lab-based services. LS focuses on niche and emerging technologies. Specific to PowerHA, LS is focused on emerging PowerHA technologies such as Geographic Logical Volume Manager (PowerHA/XD for GLVM). Question: How long will my version of PowerHA be supported?
