IBM PowerHA

High Availability solutions for UNIX, Linux and IBM i (i5/OS) customers

Power = uptime - downtime

With decades of experience designing and deploying high availability hardware and software, IBM can offer Power Systems solutions designed to keep your systems available and your business running. With our extensive background in Predictive Failure Analysis™ and dynamic system adaptation, IBM can offer a unique platform that unleashes extraordinary reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) capabilities for your business.

RAS Design Philosophy for POWER processor based systems

The overriding design goal for all POWER™ processor-based servers is simply stated:
Employ an architecture-based design strategy to design and build IBM servers that can avoid unplanned application outages. In the unlikely event that a hardware fault should occur, the system must analyze, isolate, and identify the failing component so that repairs can be effected (either dynamically, through "self-healing", or via standard service practices) as quickly as possible - with little or no system interruption. This should be accomplished regardless of the system size.

RAS capabilities

In 2004, IBM announced POWER5™, supporting new levels of performance and virtualization. This architecture is designed to help avoid both planned and unplanned outages, and to focus on application uptime. The IBM Power Systems platform builds upon this foundation to offer leading RAS capabilities for your business.

In May 2007, IBM announced the POWER6 processor with the IBM System p 570 and System i 570. The POWER 6 processor incorporates technology to deliver both outstanding performance and enhanced RAS capabilities. IBM engineers are constantly making incremental improvements in server design to help ensure our servers support high levels of:
