AIX® is a UNIX® operating system that is based on open standards. These standards provide clients with the interoperability and freedom to choose the right solution for their environment. As part of this standards support, IBM provides tools and integrated function that support open standards managed by the Open Group, the IEEE, the ISO/IEC and other standard organizations.
AIX Version 6.1 is designed to comply with the same open standards supported by AIX Version 5.
The AIX operating system has a long history of open standards compliance. Most recently AIX V5.3 dated 7-2006 or later obtained the UNIX03 Brand in September 2006. Prior open standards complied with by AIX include AIX 5.1 that was branded UNIX 98, UNIX 98 Server and UNIX 98 WorkStation compliant. AIX 5.2 dated 8-2004 or later was also branded UNIX03 compliant. IBM helped develop the new UNIX 03 standard: The Single UNIX Specification, Version 3.
AIX compliance with open standards includes security standards. The AIX operating system has a long history of complying with security standards.
