Selecting a strategic operating system

New study from Solitaire Interglobal describes how AIX on Power Systems delivers happier end users, greater security, higher reliability and lower costs

The operating system is the supporting infrastructure that is the behind-the-scene's major player, one that is seldom considered to be a significant factor in an organization's IT general operation. The extensive study by Solitaire Interglobal Ltd. shows the value of the operating system irrespective of the application suite.

Executive Customer Satisfaction The purpose of the analysis was to examine the real-world impact on businesses that deploy IBM's AIX operating systems, compared to those using either Linux or Windows on x86 processors. The study spanned business and technical metrics, ranging from comprehensive cost components to time-to-market agility. The study has correlated the technical components with their associated business metrics that show the advantages and key strategies that will help an organization to choose the best operating system.

Ultimately, IT and technology are designed to support business functions. So the primary perspective of the study was the view of the technology by an organization's executive and line-of-business management. The study used data from more than 43,260 IT organizations to compare the effect of the operating system on metrics such as customer satisfaction, agility, operational costs, overall expenses, IT stability, and staffing costs.

One key difference found was the impact of the operating system on customer satisfaction. This satisfaction, reported by thousands of executive managers about their IT systems clearly shows that AIX operating system provides superior end user satisfaction compared to other operating systems, regardless of application.
