The IBM i Edition Express for BladeCenter® S offers an extremely attractive option for existing AS/400®, iSeries® and System i™ 515, 520 and 525 clients to reduce IT costs and complexity by consolidating their IBM i and Windows® applications with an IBM BladeCenter solution. With starting prices similar to the Power™ 520 Express i Edition, the i Edition Express for BladeCenter S enables you to run your i applications and consolidate x86 servers into the BladeCenter S chassis that supports up to six blades and over five terabytes of disk. And, with a 3-year warranty included, the lease price of the new solution could often be less than what you may be paying today. You can achieve even higher value by consolidating existing x86 servers onto x86 blades in the same BladeCenter chassis for centralized management, resource sharing, common leasing and 3-year warranty terms.

NOTE: Some features can be replaced with features for larger or different components. Other options can also be added to the i Edition Express for BladeCenter S configuration.
The BladeCenter JS12 blade is a 2-core, 3.8 GHz POWER6 processor-based blade. The blade supports from 4 to 64 GB of memory, has two 1 Gb Ethernet ports, supports two expansion cards, and has two disk drives.
The BladeCenter S chassis has six blade bays for up to six POWER6 and x86 processor-based blade servers and room for up to 12 disk drives.
IBM i on the JS12 blade uses PowerVM Standard Edition, which includes POWER Hypervisor™, Micro-Partitioning™, Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) with Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM), Lx86, and Virtual LAN features. PowerVM Standard Edition is available for no additional charge on BladeCenter JS12 blades. IBM i uses the VIOS partition for access to BladeCenter resources and storage devices. The VIOS partition owns the Ethernet and SAS adapters on the blade and virtualizes the resources to the IBM i partition.
VIOS and IBM i can be pre-installed by IBM on BladeCenter S with BladeCenter JS12 configurations. When IBM i is pre-installed, it is installed onto drives on the BladeCenter S.
The BladeCenter S and the BladeCenter H support the attachment of the IBM Storage System DS3200 for additional storage capacity. The IBM TS2240 LTO-4 tape drive is recommended for backup and restore operations and is supported by the virtual tape function.
