When the UK's National Health Service (NHS) was looking to update outdated human resource systems for their 1.2 million employees, they looked for trusted partners to do the job and chose to work with IBM, Oracle, and McKesson. The new Electronic Staff Record is the largest deployment of it's kind in the world. The solution replaced 38 individual systems onto IBM System p hardware with Oracle HRMS software and IBM storage, managed by McKesson Information Solutions UK.

When Computacenter needed to upgrade its IT infrastructure to support growing business needs, the decision was to consolidate SAP applications in a virtualized environment onto powerful IBM System p and IBM System Storage platforms. The result? Greater flexibility in allocation of server resources that helped reduce the total number of processors from 88 to 44, and aided cost reductions for the SAP environment. Through this consolidation, Computacenter also significanly reduced the amount of datacenter facility space required to support these processing requirements.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center continually updates its IT infrastructure to maintain a standard of excellence within the medical community. The most recent migration was to a consolidated and virtualized environment with IBM System p and IBM System Storage systems, accomplished with no unplanned downtime and improvements in both performance and productivity. With these new systems, a project to set up 20 logical partitions in support of training systems took only a day and a half—over a weekend—to implement, instead of the 14 to 29 days such a task had required before the implemention of this leadership IBM technology.
