IBM is one of the leading industry proponents of Linux and was the first major computer company to formally announce Linux operating system (OS) as a strategic platform for solutions on January 10, 2000. Offering the broadest range of Linux OS-based products, service offerings and solutions, IBM has helped thousands of clients experience the values of Linux OS.

eFunds is a leading provider of Financial Payments switching and services to retail institutions in the US, flowing over 75% of the US retail payments transactions through its switches. Operating worldwide, eFunds provides Financial Payments offerings including transaction switching, clearing, settlement, account opening and others and delivers these offerings either as services in its data centers or through software it markets to both financial, government and merchant institutions.

IBM and eFunds are jointly working to accelerate the introduction of Linux into the world of Financial Payments to benefit the industry initially through this joint definition of a reference architecture for eFunds IST/Switch for Linux on IBM POWER Systems.

The solution reference architecture for eFunds IST/Switch for Linux on IBM POWER Systems has been integrated, evaluated and tested on various different configurations with a main focus given to throughput performance and high availability. IBM and eFunds are now offering a highly available and scalable solution for eFunds IST/Switch for Linux on IBM POWER Systems, IBM TotalStorage and IBM middleware.
