DAR/6000 is low-cost, hardware and software disaster recovery solution that satisfies the needs of a mission critical application that does not require real-time recovery. DAR/6000 provides disaster recovery of data by means of a geographically separate mirror for mission-critical data. DAR/6000 is a complete solution that quickly and automatically sets up a data mirror on a separate system without the need for cables attaching disk subsystems to two machines.
This solution uses IBM Geographic Remote Mirroring (GeoRM) for AIX® and a set of GeoRM Automatic Configuration Program (GeoACP) scripts. These scripts automatically set up mirrors between two systems by using input parameters. John Easton, a technical staff member in the IBM High Availability Cluster Competence Center in the UK, developed the GeoACP configuration scripts after working with many customers in setting up geographic mirrors to meet their disaster recovery requirements.
This article describes tests of DAR/6000 and presents results that captured the performance characteristics of a mirrored system from multiple perspectives. It explains the DAR/6000 setup, the suite of tests performed, and the test results. It also offers tips to users based on the test experience.
