ARMONK, N.Y., February 25, 2005—IDC reported today that in 2004, IBM extended its lead as the number one server vendor in the world based on revenue1.
IDC data shows that IBM gained in world wide revenue year-to-year in several key server areas1. Highlights from IDC include:
- IBM expanded its number one position in overall servers gaining worldwide revenue year-to-year.
- IBM claimed worldwide UNIX® revenue leadership in 4Q04.
- In 4Q04, IBM tied for #2 worldwide in revenue for x86 Intel® servers.
- For the third consecutive year, IBM continued to grow Intel server revenue faster than any other major server vendor.
- IBM is the number one vendor in 4Q04 and FY2004 for blade server revenue.
- In 2004, IBM grew Linux® server revenue faster than any of the top three Linux server vendors on a year-to-year basis.
- Of the top three vendors, in 4Q04 IBM was the world's fastest-growing vendor in revenue for the UNIX, Intel, and Linux server segments on a year-to-year basis.
