With the introduction of POWER6™ based technology and PowerVM™ virtualization, Power Systems has established a position of financial and technical leadership and is poised to lead for the long term. If you are a HP, Dell or Sun customer, you may be aware of the IBM lead in UNIX® plus Linux® solutions but may be concerned with the risk of changing technology. IBM has helped over 1,500 clients migrate from competitive systems to Power Systems. IBM Power Rewards can help you access that experience and reduce the risk as you migrate to the industry's leading UNIX + Linux platform.
Introducing Power Rewards
The simple way to take the risk out of moving to the right platform.
For the last time.
Clients around the world have used systems based on the IBM Power Architecture™ to help them maximize the return of their IT investments. By delivering exceptional performance with high reliability and energy efficiency, these systems have helped companies respond quickly to changing business conditions and take advantage of new growth opportunities. New systems based on POWER6™ processor and PowerVM technology can help deliver better return than ever before.
But not all IT customers enjoy the same new technology opportunities. Customers with systems based on HP's PA-RISC are already using the last PA-RISC systems ever designed are not able to purchase more of the systems they are using today. These customers are facing the challenge of migrating their work to new technology with all of the risks associated with recompiling applications and retuning to match the capabilities of new systems.
Similarly many customers using UltraSPARC IIIi, IV, and IV+ technology had made the decision to wait for the availability of new ROCK processors scheduled for introduction in the second half of 2008, but ROCK was delayed a year until the second half of 2009. Now these customers face the necessity to wait even longer or the challenge of moving to new technology to meet immediate needs and then moving again later. This is even a greater concern now that Sun is no longer accepting orders for most UltraSPARC IV and IV+ based systems.
Customers running many small systems using Dell PowerEdge, HP ProLiant, or Sun technologies are challenged by server sprawl, the seemingly uncontrolled growth of new servers. These customers could benefit from a Linux consolidation on highly scaled, virtualized systems in order to gain control of management and facilities costs including energy.
IBM understands the challenge facing these customers. After all, over the last several years, IBM migration experts have migrated over 1,750 clients mostly from HP and Sun systems to Power™ Systems. Now we are going to help these customers migrate to the industry's #1 UNIX + Linux platform, Power Systems, with lower risk. How can we do that? IBM introduces Power Rewards. This program will allow clients who are purchasing new Power Systems to earn extra value from IBM when moving workloads from competitive servers to Power Systems.
You earn reward points that can be redeemed for high value IBM migration expertise, services, products, education, and improved financing rates from IBM Global Financing. The amount of rewards you can earn is based on the number of competitive cores that the workloads run on before they are moved to Power Systems. IBM Migration services are delivered by experienced IBM and IBM Business Partner consultants who have participated in helping clients all over the world who have already moved up to IBM.
Our proven record of compatibility moving from generation to generation of POWER processors means that you can make your next platform move your last platform move. As Power systems move forward, you will too - without requiring painful migrations or recompilations.
Power Rewards Details
The value of Power Rewards can lead to a significant reduction in the cost of migration. For example, a client who moves the workload from a 64-core HP 9000 Superdome could earn 256,000 points. Those points could be redeemed as 680 hours of Migration services. That is 680 hours of experienced consultancy. That can help reduce both the cost and risk of migration.
Power rewards rules: It's simple.
- Buy a qualifying Power server.
- Move workload from a competitive server to the new Power server and get Power Rewards.
- Use Power Rewards to migrate to the #1 UNIX + Linux platform with IBM expertise.
- Enjoy the benefits of moving up to IBM.
Eligibility: To earn Power rewards points purchase a qualifying system or CUoD processor activations from IBM or an authorized IBM Business Partner. At the time of the purchase, let IBM know about the workloads that will be moved. You will be asked to complete the Power Rewards Customer Agreement. In this agreement, you will certify the number and type of cores contained in those systems and that the systems are currently in productive use. Note that Power rewards may not be combined with rebates and other special offers. If you have any question about whether your purchase and equipment transfer is eligible for Power rewards, please contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner.
Points: Power rewards points are earned based on the number and types of cores used for the workloads moved to IBM. The points you can earn for each core is shown in the Rewards Points Schedule. The maximum number of points earned is also limited by the system purchased from IBM. That can be as high as 50% of the price of the system purchased. Your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner can help you calculate the limit for your transaction.
The points will be credited to you when you have contracted for the qualifying system, and completed the Power Rewards Customer Agreement. You may redeem the points as soon as they have been credited. However if you do not install the qualifying system, then you will be charged for the rewards you have redeemed at the rate of $1US per point.
