Virtualization will have the highest impact of all trends in infrastructure and operational changes through 2012, according to Gartner, Inc. Virtualization will transform how IT is managed, what is bought, how it is deployed, how companies plan and how they are charged.1
By consolidating servers and reducing the number of servers required to do the same workload, IT can decrease the space required for server farms, and reduce the power and cooling required to drive those servers. With typical server utilization running between 2 and 10% (before virtualization), consolidating through virtualization brings extremely compelling business benefits, with consolidation ratios typically running an average of 10 to 1 (consolidating 10 existing server workloads as 10 virtual servers onto one physical server). Server virtualization solutions have matured, and offer stable platforms to allow organizations to continue rolling out virtualization in production across most of their remaining infrastructure.2
