What’s new in IBM Director 5.20? New capabilities are designed to deliver superior hardware manageability and maximum system availability, while reducing IT costs:
  • Simplified installation. Using default values and a simplified task list, the new IBM Director Express Installation can simplify installation. Choose it for essential operations, and add other tasks after installation, if desired.
  • Management for updates. A new Update Manager task provides integrated management of firmware and driver updates.
    • Profiles can be used to define approved sets of updates.
    • New updates are automatically downloaded based on defined profiles.
    • Levels on managed systems can be compared against defined profiles.
    • Reports are generated and systems can be brought up-to-date.
  • Security improvements. IBM Director 5.20 provides security improvements in these areas:
    • Support for LDAP server authentication.
    • Support for hierarchy of global or domain local user groups.
    • Task authorization for both parent tasks and subtasks.
    • Command line support for user and group authorization tasks.
  • Expanded command line interface. IBM Director 5.20 provides a command line interface that has been expanded to allow command-line creation of dynamic groups.
  • Inventory collection now collects firmware information for more devices, including hard disk drives, SCSI tape drives, NIC adapters, and RSA video BIOS for most managed systems.
  • Includes support for new IBM hardware.
  • An updated, comprehensive, Web-based information center provides easy access to the most up-to-date product information available.
