Extensions: IBM Director and extensions for Linux on System z
 | | |
|
With IBM Director for Linux on System z there are two extensions available in support of System z:
z/VM Center introduces a standardized way to deploy new z/VM virtual LINUX systems, but has the easy-to-use Director interface that does not require specific z/VM knowledge to operate. It leverages the
MAP interface to z/VM that offers a Common Information Model (CIM)-based interface for z/VM system management functions.
The z/VM Center concept of virtual server templates and operating system templates enables automated creation of new z/VM guest systems and the provisioning of Linux operating systems into these guests easily in a customized and repeatable way.
The
IBM Director interactive demo covers a z/VM Center scenario to demonstrate its ease of use. Under "See it in action" choose the "Managing your mainframe virtual servers" scenario. This shows how to provide a new z/VM LINUX guest to a new student of a LINUX administration class in a few minutes, without the need to deeply understand z/VM internals.
