IBM Virtual Availability Manager is a part of the Virtualization Manager extension to IBM Director that provides a simplified availability solution for customers using Xen-based virtualization. Virtual Availability Manager can be used to help manage and respond to planned and unplanned system outages, leveraging virtual server checkpoint/restart and mobility to avoid recover from virtual server and host system failures.
IBM Systems Director Virtual Availability Manager provides high availability and dynamic and static relocation for Xen virtual servers. It allows you to easily create a high availability virtual server farm to help manage and response to planned and unplanned outages. The Management server runs on AIX, Windows on x86 platforms, Linux on x86 and POWER, managing the availability of Xen virtualized host systems.
The IBM Virtual Availability Manager provides a virtual server availability solution. The administrator is able to pool Xen hosts together into Farms or clusters of similar systems. It predicts and reacts to server hardware failures before they occur and reacts to unplanned host system and virtual server failures. Virtual Availability Manager then takes actions as defined within simplified high availability policies. The actions that can be performed include host evacuation using virtual server mobility, virtual server restart and restart from checkpoint. Virtual Availability Manager leverages the flexibility and mobility of virtual server images and is completely transparent to the operating system and applications, eliminating the needed to deploy and manage additional management agents. It is an integrated and tested simplified availability solutionthatleverages the flexibility of virtualization.
