Highlights
"IBM BladeCenter T is a platform of choice for telecom operators to deploy Next Generation Networks. It brings superior power and modularity to design very large switches delivering complex services, while allowing large CAPEX and OPEX reduction. By basing our products on IBM BladeCenter T, Thomson now stands out in the marketplace with its Cirpack platform, providing the voice switching technology needed for the very large nodes and infrastructures demanded by telecom operators."
— Fabien Maisl, Director of marketing, Thomson's Network software group
Thomson's Cirpack platform is a Class 4/Class 5 telephony switch that runs on a compact, off-the-shelf, carrier grade IBM BladeCenter T system. Thomson's Cirpack consists of the company's field-proven SoftSwitch software running on carrier grade Linux™ and Thomson's Cirpack voice gateway hardware specifically adapted to the BladeCenter enclosure. This comprehensive, standards-based solution delivers far greater freedom and flexibility for deploying new, value-added telephony services and getting them to market faster, at very favorable costs.
Provides subscriber services over both legacy access networks (ISDN, POTS, R2) and IP local loops (DSL, Cable, FTTH, Wimax). Also comes with IP Centrex and Fixed-Mobile Convergence capabilities. Manages call routing between operators in IP and legacy TDM signaling. Switching is controlled with software as opposed to hardware in the older PSTN circuit switches. Provides control to signaling gateway and media gateway. Can be enhanced to become a comprehensive IMS core platform with its border elements and voice Application server.
Performances:
Using the IBM BladeCenter T, running Intel-based processors (HS20 blade server) and carrier-grade Linux can manage several millions busy hour call attempts (BHCA), up to 264,000 subscribers and up to 30,000 voice channels of mixed IP and TDM traffic (1,000 E1s). More local or remote shelves can be added to scale the platform to a multi-thousand E1 node.
