Logical Partitioning enhances the role of the iSeries as a consolidated server. LPAR is of value to customers who need server consolidation, business unit consolidation, mixed production, and a QA and test environment. By consolidating critical data and applications on the iSeries, you can do more than cut costs; you can create a total business solution that’s greater than the sum of its parts. That, in turn, means you can go to market faster, smarter and more efficiently than the competition.
With the introduction of V5R1, these independent LPAR systems can now dynamically move and adjust logical resources across systems to provide for timely processing performance as needed. V5R1 also introduced the possibilities for independent ASP (IASP), provides for off-line or on-line ASP storage for the IFS objects. System clustering, Linux kernel guest partition, and Virtual LAN emulating an internal 1Gb Ethernet line.
