READ THIS FIRST for Facsimile Support for iSeries (5798FAX) V5R2

This document pertains to the currently supported release of Facsimile Support for iSeries (Version 5 Release 2). It contains information that has changed since the Facsimile Support documentation was published for Version 4: Facsimile Support Installation Guide, SC41-0654-01; Facsimile Support User's Guide, SC-0655-01; and Facsimile Support Programmer's Guide and Reference, SC41-0656-01.

Hardware changes

The following hardware devices have been withdrawn since the documentation was last published (Version 4):

  • OS/2 PC Controller; the Link Types *LAN and *TDLC have been removed from the CRTFAXD command
  • Integrated Fax Adapter (IFA); PSF/400 Option 17 no longer exists in currently supported operating system releases
  • IBM 2761/4761 is not supported for i5/OS V5R3 and later releases.

Support for additional hardware devices has been added.

See the Frequently Asked Questions for a complete list of currently supported hardware devices. You may need to install one or more Fax PTFs to use the some of the devices.

Software Changes

The following software changes have been made since the documentation was last published (Version 4):

  • Currently supported product release is 5798FAX, R520.
  • Additional support provided for 6-byte spooled file numbers.
  • Changes have been made to the transaction log file (QAFFTLOG). Updates to Chapter 6 of the V4 Facsimile Support Programmer's Guide and Reference are listed below in bold text:

    Note: If you have a program that monitors the QAFFTLOG or send fax data queue, the program may need to be updated.

  • Changes have been made to the send fax data queue. Updates to Chapter 7 of the V4 Facsimile Support Programmer's Guide and Reference are listed below in bold text:
  • 20 The first user-defined field.
    20 The second user-defined field.
    8 The date of the data queue entry, including the four-character year.
    6 The 6-character spooled file number.
