There are two facilities for IBM Power Systems (i) Benchmarking. These facilities are located in Rochester, MN and Montpellier, France. The Power Systems (i) Benchmark Centers are part of the IBM Systems and Technology Group. Both of these centers are available to help you whenever you have system performance validation and testing needs.

Using state-of-the-art tools the Benchmark Center is able to provide you hands-on experience with Power Systems (i) solutions to help you answer with confidence questions such as:

• How long will my nightly batch job run if I upgrade to a new model?
• Can we handle xxx,xxx,xxx interactive transactions/hour?
• What will my response time be if I double the number of users?
• Can my configuration support xxx,xxx,xxx client/server users?
• How can I get test time on the latest IBM Power Systems (i) hardware or software releases?

Have you recently modernized an application? You can test the response time of its new functions against various sets of users. Does your application have "hot spots"? The Power Systems (i) Benchmark Center has the tools to help you "tune" those transactions that seem slow.

Here are some examples of what others have done using our facilities:

• Determine release-to-release compatibility and practice upgrade before performing it on a production system
• Demonstrate that a proposed solution will work in our benchmark center "sandbox"
• Capacity planning to provide sizing information for sales and marketing
• Prove disaster recovery strategy works
• Determine performance of an application prior to deployment
• Study consolidation of several distributed systems into a single location
• Utilize an IBM Power Systems (i) as a web server to test replacement of several Windows systems.

The benchmark center operates on a cost recovery basis. Fees are determined based on the length of time and the size and quantity of hardware required.
