About Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing (Sametime) 6.5.1 for iSeries

  • The previous release of this product was called Sametime 3.1. For this release, the product has been renamed to IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing 6.5.1. References to the product name have not been changed in most of the documentation and user interface. Consider the name “Sametime” to be synonymous with “IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing” when reading the product documentation.
  • The 6.5.1 release number was used in order to be consistent with the Domino server version with which this product is designed to work. Other versions of Domino are also supported. For iSeries servers, Sametime 6.5.1 supports Domino 6.0.3, 6.5.0, 6.5.1, and later 6.5.x releases. See System requirements for more details.
  • Current Sametime for iSeries customers can upgrade directly to Sametime 6.5.1 from the following Sametime releases: 2.5, 3.0, 3.0a and 3.1.
  • Sametime 6.5.1 supports integration with Team Workplace (QuickPlace) 6.5.1. For more information, see QuickPlace for iSeries: Enabling integration with Sametime (technote #7003786).

What's new in Sametime 6.5.1?

  • Name Conversion Utility: When you make updates to user and group name data in the Sametime server directory, use this utility to make the same updates in Sametime Connect client buddy lists and privacy lists. For example, you can use this utility to reduce disruption for your users if you convert from using the Domino directory to an LDAP directory. For more information, see Sametime for iSeries: Name Conversion Utility Readme File. You can download the utility from IBM developerWorks.
  • Lotus Web Conferencing Audio Adapter for Premiere Conferencing: Provides the ability to integrate and control Web-based teleconferences from the Sametime meeting room, using the services of Premiere Conferencing. See Integrated Audio with Lotus Web Conferencing for more information and to download the required audio adapter code. (If you have installed Sametime 6.5.1 Fix Pack 1, you must download and install the version of the Audio Adapter that is compatible with Fix Pack 1.)

Find out more by visiting the Premiere Conferencing resource center and register for a free trial.

  • Enhanced Save Whiteboard capability: Previous releases of Sametime for iSeries required complex setup and configuration to enable the capability to save the contents of the meeting room whiteboard. The process is dramatically simpler for Sametime 6.5.1. (Requires OS/400 V5R2 or later.)
  • Enhanced LDAP directory searching capabilities: Administrators can write Java classes to customize the logic Sametime uses to conduct LDAP directory searches. Both the manner in which Sametime searches the LDAP directory and the formatting of user names can be customized.
  • Directory mapping: The Sametime server can accept an authentication token created from an LDAP directory other than the directory used by the Sametime server. This allows Sametime features, such as Sametime Links, to operate on portal servers when the portal server and the Sametime server use different LDAP directories.
  • Force screen sharing to use 8-bit color: This feature is available to improve the screen sharing performance in Sametime meetings.
  • Chat client filtering: The administrator can configure the server to reject connection attempts from earlier versions of Sametime Connect clients. These clients have less stringent security mechanisms than the Sametime 6.5.1 clients.
  • Security updates: Support for encryption of the buddy lists, privacy lists, and presence status information that is transmitted from the server to the clients. Announcements sent from Sametime Connect clients can also be encrypted.
  • Do not disturb feature available from Meeting Room client: Meeting Room client users can set their online status to “Do not disturb.” This capability was previously available only in the Sametime Connect client.
