PDF and Intelligent Routing
Central to InfoPrint Server for System i is the transformation of enterprise output delivery. Subsystem enhancements integrated into the IBM System i output architecture enable documents and reports to be segmented, then delivered in electronic or hardcopy format. The PDF part of this subsystem can transform any standard System i output format into PDF. The PDF is text-based, fully navigable, high-performance. In addition, enhancements to Data Description Specifications (DDS) support in i5/OS enable you to segment an output file, triggering the PDF server to create multiple PDF files—this is an "electronic burst and bind" or "segmentation" function. Two interfaces are available to profile recipients and define how output will be delivered to each. Documents and reports, or segments of those files, can be set up for hardcopy or electronic delivery, or combinations.

Web AFP
AFP output can be treated similarly. A new command—Create AFP Data (CRTAFPDTA) provides three critical functions:
- Convert print formatted with page definitions to AFP
- Create a portable file by pulling in external fonts, page segments, and overlays
- Insert indexing to facilitate easy navigation when viewing the print file.
Client/Network Printing
An additional focus of InfoPrint Server is System i management of network output. InfoPrint Server provides transforms for PCL, PostScript®, and PDF into AFP so output generated in those formats can be brought into the System i and effectively managed to the printer.
Web Image Transforms
InfoPrint Server can take standard Web, e-business image formats—GIF, TIFF, and JPEG—and convert them to System i format (IOCA, Image Object Content Architecture, or also called System i page segments).
